Hello and thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has made the switch over to my new username!

For those who don't know me very well, I’m a fan and an anthropology grad student. I’m starting my PhD on fandom in February 2013. I’m going to explore the powerful emotions that fandom stirs in us; how it drives us to write, draw, paint, make videos or mods, read stories, discuss characters, and replay games/scenes over and over again. This is based partly on my own experience with fandom, and partly on what I think is also important to other people.

I’m focusing on BioWare fandom. This is because: a) I’m a huge BioWare fan girl myself, and b) it’s damned interesting. At the moment I’m looking at both the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games, but I may narrow it down to just one universe in the future.

My hypothesis is that fandom is important to people because of the ‘feels’. Fandom is something that can make us laugh, cry, smile, or despair. From what I’ve read, people have surprisingly not focused too much on emotions in fandom scholarship. They look at what people are doing, but not on how people are feeling. I’d like to highlight the feelings.

The move to my new username has made it easier for me to have the same handle across all of the blogging or publishing platforms that I use. You can find me on the following:

So again, thank you for following - and feel free to say hi whenever and wherever!
